3D printing not yet efficient for bulk manufacturing, says company boss | E&T Magazine

3D printing may not prove to be an efficient means of manufacturing simple plastic components on a grand scale...

I think he's missed the point.  I agree that 3D printing can replace current mass production techniques, which are great for runs of thousands and more units.


However, the setup cost for mass production means those production lines don't make sense for many things:
 - prosthetics
 - dentistry
 - molds for the  mass production process
 - custom components
 - prototypes


It's also good to remember some things can only be practically made with additive manufacturing.
