Site Migration Issues

Yeah, I'm still working on the migration to HE.

There are problems with the blog publishing that I'm working out. The old hosting provider allowed 'subdomains', i.e., blog.sagar.org, whereas HE doesn't, so I've had to move the blog to sagar.org/blog.sagar.org. Currently the front page still points to the subdomain and therefore goes nowhere. Why I'm telling you this I don't know, because you can't see it! ...

Also I noticed today that many of the images from earlier posts are missing. Guess I'm going to have a busy weekend fixing this stuff.

jPodder Podcasting

Looking for a way to automate the download of uptodate podcasts onto my Zaurus. I've started listening to podcasts when I'm walking the dog... hey, I can only listen to lovelines so many times per week without getting totally annoyed with the retards who call in (even though Adam Corrola is a genious).

Anyway, I think a hack of jPodder to run on my site and prepare a single tar for download to the Zaurus may be the way to go.

Software Development Kit for Giga Vu Pro Devices

Ahaaa, my earlier curiousity about the OS under the Jobo GigaVue Pro has been answered ... The penguin strikes again!!

Opera to MS: Get real about interoperability, Mr Gates | The Register

Hakon Wium Lie (CTO of Opera Software) has a nice rant at Bill Gates about their commitment to interroperability! Nice one.

Opera to MS: Get real about interoperability, Mr Gates | The Register: "Hakon Wium Lie, CTO, Opera Software"

BTW, I still think the Opera browser is shite :-)

Gmail / Zaurus annoyances

More annoyances on the Gmail / Zaurus front.

In the past I tried to use Gmail from my Zaurus via the Opera browser. It never worked. Opera does a core dump every time you try to access gmail.com. So I was excited when Gmail started offering POP3 access to accounts.

My excitement has quickly waned, now that I have discovered the POP access is over SSL. The mail client on the Zaurus is so basic that it doesn't support the 'standard' POP over SSL/port 995.

I'm mildly annoyed with Gmail for not testing their web interface with the Linux/Opera browser, but moreso I'm pissed off with Sharp. I've discovered the mail client is lamer than ever! This on top of all the other lame packages that ship with the Zaurus...

Yahoo! News - PhpBB site compromised, developers locked out

Clearly what they should have had was the heads of the PHP creators on the body of monkeys, due to the fact that PHP is crap enough to have a huge security hole in it.

Yahoo! News - PhpBB site compromised, developers locked out: "The hackers replaced the phpbb.com front page with a picture of U.S. President George Bush (news - web sites)'s head pasted onto the body of a monkey..."

Loophole in Photography Law Vexes Lawyers

Such is the stupidity of the law in the US! No laws against being a pedophile, provided you do it in public. On the other hand, if someone could have got the guy to say "cock" on TV the FCC could have fined him half a million dollars.

Guardian Unlimited | World Latest | Loophole in Photography Law Vexes Lawyers: "RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Jeffrey Swisher was caught using a videocamera to peer up the skirts of teenagers at a mall, and law enforcement officials were eager to put him behind bars for a long time.

His punishment: 10 days in jail. A loophole in Virginia law meant prosecutors were only able to convict Swisher of disorderly conduct."

Smart People Choke Under Pressure

This explains why I'm so crap at interviews ....

Smart People Choke Under Pressure: "A new study finds that individuals with high working-memory capacity, which normally allows them to excel, crack under pressure and do worse on simple exams than when allowed to work with no constraints. Those with less capacity score low, too, but they tend not to be affected by pressure.
