How did you celebrate Earth Day?

I didn't do anything particularly green for earth day. I'm trying to be more environmentally friendly these days - my attempts have certainly lapsed since I moved to the USofA.

I'm thinking of starting a blog/podcast on green tech, particularly profiling my ideas and inventions for green-ness. We'll see how that goes. I'll try to get a few episodes in the can before I launch.

Mrs Sagar and I did buy a Hybrid car this year, to replace our defunct Ford Focus.

I am trying to be more green when I consider my produce purchases, for example, I always shop the organic isle in Safeway and this weekend Ben and I have been to Orchard Supply Hardware and bought tomato, spring/green onion and melon plants in an attempt to grow local!

My next big environmental kick is to convert my water heating to solar. Seems like a no-brainer for a California resident, seeing as we've already had 90degree weather and it's likely to be sunny for the next six months guaranteed. Just need to get some info on the costs and local installers.

The other thing I try to do is reduce the amount of cow I eat, as cow takes a lot of the earth's resources to produce. I'm trying to eat more chicken and pork ... but burgers just taste soooooo good :-p

Go Green y'all!

American Eagle ... Made in China

Some magazine called 'History' sent me a very patriotic subscription offer ... Blah blah 'historic moment' ... 'American history enthusiast' ... 'unending passion for America' ...blah ...

Then as a final enticement they stick a free keyfob in the envelope.  An american eagle.  With a big 'Made in China' sticker on the back of it.

Have some pride for fucks sake.  Send me a free keyfob that's made in Alabama or something.

Working out the present list for Ben:

[got it] iPod touch

Ben likes to listen to audio books, not to mention watch cartoons! We figure it's about time he had something he could use to listen to

[got it] The Sea of Monsters

(Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2)

Ben's been reading this Rick Riordan series and really enjoys it. It's Greek mythology set in present day.

Philips MCM275 Flat Wall-Mountable Shelf System

This may be a little excessive, but it would be nice to have a set of speakers that he could plug his iPod into while he's in the house. This shelf system has an aux input that can be used for iPod or other MP3 player (which means I could also borrow it and plug my Palm Pre into it).

Garfield Cat Tales

All of a sudden Ben's really into Garfield. Garfield Books and DVD would definitely be on his list of presents.

Pirate Bay Ruling

I have no sympathy for them.

For one "Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde, and Carl Lundstrom" are really shit pirate names. What about a 'Frederik the Black Scrotum' or something more sinister.

Second, they got off lightly. If they claim to be pirates they should be lashed, thrown in the sun for a week without water ('cept sea water), left in the brig with a mad Irish sea dog for 40 nights, then forced to walk the plank in shark infested waters of the Caribbean.

A cushy Swedish prison sounds like a slap on the wrist! I'll bet it has toilets, food and all kinds of other luxuries.
